soap faults in asynchronous scenario

Hi,

My scenario is IDOC to webservice (asynchronous) in PI. I would like to know below details.

1. If there are any soap exceptions, communication channel will fail correct? Do retry happen in communication channel?

2. If in third party, this is build as synchronous scenario, when there is a soap response will it fail in communication channel?
